Featured Designer: Southern Girl Weddings

At Afloral.com we are so fortunate to work with incredible floral designers.  Their talent for arranging silk flower stems wows and inspires us everyday.  One such designer is Lindsay of Southern Girl Weddings. She specializes in “Keepsake Silk Bouquets to Complete Your Dream Wedding.”  We have been so lucky to collaborate with Lindsay on several How To tutorials and inspiring faux flower designs featuring Afloral stems.  She jokes that every bouquet she creates is “her new favorite” but we think you would be hard pressed to pick just one! Take a look at her latest designs and learn a little bit more about this #AfloralDesigner.

I have always been a very creative person. I love making and designing things from bouquets to peg dolls to felt toys. I always have multiple “projects” that I’m working on. I have a Pinterest addiction and I honestly don’t know what I did before it!  Southern Girl Weddings actually just started as a hobby in addition to my day job.  I have never had any formal floral design training, but I enjoy learning as much as I can on the subject and relying on my creativity and different inspirations to come up with designs.  I have since quit my day job to pursue floral design full time and I am loving every minute of it.

My business is very family-oriented.  I am usually designing bouquets and filling orders with my kids right beside me who then pick up the leftover flowers and scrap leaves to design their own “bouquets”.  When I am doing product photography, my kids are there with me behind the scenes blowing bubbles or playing with sidewalk chalk.

Designing silk flower bouquets has allowed me to expand my business internationally. I have worked with brides all over the US and in 12 different countries.

I have found there are many reasons brides choose silk flowers over real flowers.  Unfortunately some brides have severe allergies that prevent them from being able to carry a real bouquet, some are traveling internationally to a region that prohibits flowers from being imported, some brides are on a tight budget and cannot afford fresh flowers, and many are thrilled with the fact that their silk bouquet is a keepsake that will look just as it did on their wedding day and they will be able to display it in a special place in their home.

I have had many brides tell me that their photographers, who had been photographing the bouquets throughout the ceremony, never realized that they were silk flowers. It is my goal to make the flowers appear as realistic as possible.

I know that some people have an aversion to silk flowers, but I want to change the way people feel about silks. I want to show everyone that silk flowers can be just as beautiful as the real deal.
