Faux flowers are in bloom at Afloral.com just in time for Spring wedding season. Event stylist and floral designer Alex Lutz of Events By Icandy created a Garden Bridal Shower perfect for any Spring bride to be!
With the grey skies and cold Michigan winter air, we jumped at the opportunity when Afloral.com asked us to design a styled shoot to capture their spring blossoms. The pastel, lush blooms and thought of new spring growth inspired this garden bridal shower.
Silk flowers don’t have to be paper-y, fraying, and unrealistic. The flowers you see from Afloral are high quality, some even real to the touch, and are on a totally different level than those that you find at your local craft store. So many people turn away when we mention silks because they picture the ones that they’ve seen at public stores. It really comes down to the quality and technique of floral design used to make these silks look like fresh flowers; For example: layering buds for depth, using various sizes, and adding lots of texture and variety. Some people even go up to our flowers to smell them! We love to go faux for a few reasons: they are always in season, they never have brown spots or bruises, they don’t wilt throughout the day no matter how hot or cold it is, they allow low budget (or even large budget!) brides to achieve an abundant look without the high cost of fresh.
For our centerpiece, we chose to design the flowers as if they were growing up out of the table–with vines reaching out and poppies peeping up. Although we tend to lean towards a more neutral palette, we decided to go more colorful with blossom pink, poppy yellow, sky blue, and natural whites in order to capture the essence of spring. When it came to flower choices, we tried to use those that appear around spring-time in Michigan such as cherry blossoms, grape muscari, and peonies. Glass elements (bud vases, candle stands, votives, and even the plates) allowed the light to flow across the table without interruption.
We had to go with Loft 310 when it came to picking a venue because of the way the light shines through the multitude of windows and bounces off the clean, white brick walls. We had Samantha Klug style our model bride with a soft, relaxed look to mimic the blossoms of spring and chose a flowy dress from BHLDN to tie the look together. We also love the way Paige Gabert used film to catch the softness of the blooms, and the way she always creates beautiful moods in each of her photos.
Let’s just say we were so glad to have a touch of color and spring light in the midst of our gloomy winter days!
