Fall Recap

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year to get married.  Stunning foliage, rich colors and mild temperatures provide a picturesque backdrop.  Over the past two moths we’ve showcased a variety of fall wedding ideas from wedding themes, DIY wedding projects, inspiration boards, trends and how to videos.

Out of these two months I’ve chosen my top picks that best capture and showcase the fall season.

fall, barn wedding

Wedding Theme

Picking a favorite wedding theme was a tough decision from the sunflower wedding, rustic wedding, barn wedding and outdoor wedding each had so much going for them.  It came down to the barn wedding theme and the outdoor wedding theme.

Impart the barn wedding came out on top thanks to the fabulous inspiration photo’s from afloral.com’s fall photo shoot.  A barn wedding is easy and affordable to style and customize.  Decor items can be kept simple with attention paid to key details for the right wedding look.  Pick and mix inexpensive wedding details for a country wedding with all the fixin’s, a styled country chic or simply rustic barn wedding.

The outdoor wedding theme was a close second.  Fall might not be the first season selected for an outdoor wedding, but once you weigh what it has to offer it comes in as an immediate winner.  Brides are offered a variety of options, venue choices can run from an open meadow get away, local gems such as a state park or garden or a charming orchard.  Outdoor weddings provide beautiful backdrops for wedding day photos, they offer a dual setting for ceremony and reception, and they are the perfect fit for a few easy DIY wedding projects.

Inspiration Board

The fall season is alive, showcasing a beautiful array of rich, vibrant color.  Color can be found in the right flowers, decor items and even bride’s maid dresses.  Mindy started the season off right back in September, offering a glimpse of what fall had to offer in her Fall Wedding Colors Inspiration Board.  Fiery reds, spicy oranges highlighted a few wedding options with a country chic dahlia silk flower bouquet, persimmon bride’s maid dress, tiered cake, invitations and gorgeous handmade crystal earrings.

Wedding food stations, weddingbee.com

Trend Alert

The fall menu guide post left our mouths watering for warm, rich and flavorful fall food while also hitting upon some of the hottest wedding food trends.  Go green while helping your local economy and your wedding budget by using in season local produce.  Eco-friendly food options are growing in popularity and are a must for modern, budget brides.  Down sized meal portions are a big trend that allow guests to have a taste of a variety of flavorful food while still being able to mingle throughout the reception.  Food stations are a huge hit mixing up your regular reception food choices with a soup bar, mac and cheese or baked potato station. Yum.

Once your menu is set the next thing in order is to have some fun.  From Mindy’s Fun Fall Wedding Ideas Post; give your wedding a modern spin, have fun, get funky and remember grown ups can have fun too.  Glitter and sparkle pumpkins, skip expensive tux rentals, serve some tasty childhood treats and don’t forget the games.

DIY Wedding Project

I hope you haven’t forgotten about our gorgeous dahlia fall centerpiece featured back in the beginning of September.  Well I sure haven’t, it’s my favorite fall DIY pick.  Easy, affordable and absolutely gorgeous a must for any fall DIY bride.  Rich, vibrant dahlias in orange and plum, burgundy are accented by a burst of green moss and neutral grapevine balls.  Assembly takes less than 5 minutes and a single centerpiece breaks down at a cost under $30.  I love it, you love it and of course your guests will love it.

Sunflower Wedding

How -To Video Top Pick

In case you didn’t already know afloral.com has it’s own youtube channel with great how-to wedding inspiration videos, breaking down step by step wedding projects from centerpieces, chairbacks to bouquets.  My top pick for the season is the cheerful sunflower centerpiece.  Jane shows you how to arrange beautiful silk sunflowers and daisies into simple centerpieces that will bring plenty of warmth and happiness to any wedding.

Thanks for stopping in, I hope you enjoyed all that fall had to offer and all that afloral.com had to offer this wedding season.  As we transition into the winter and the winter wedding season I hope you’ll be a regular stopping back.  Afloral.com has some stunning winter wedding inspiration around the corner.  Browse through the main site for new photos/ themes and a preview of whats to come!

Easy DIY Fall Wedding Projects

Staying within your wedding budget is tough, often brides are left with trying to cut corners.  Do It Yourself wedding projects combined with silk and dried florals are a huge budget saver.  Wedding florals can consume a large portion of your wedding budget.  Silks or dried florals offer a cheap wedding alternative that doesn’t skimp on the look.  Cash in even more on savings when pairing either one up with an easy DIY project.

Now, some brides might shy away from taking on DIY projects because they aren’t crafty. So you’re not a DIY wizard or Martha Stewart, even if craftiness doesn’t run through your veins you can still utilize great DIY savings with the right resources and project how tos.  Today we’re going to feature two easy DIY floral options any level DIYer can accomplish using pre-made bouquets and dried florals.

Pre-made silk bouquet, raffia in mason jar

Pre-made Silk Bouquets

Afloral.com’s fall photo shoot featured several eye-catching pre-made silk bouquets.  Whether they are used for bridesmaids’ bouquets, larger bridal bouquets or centerpiece arrangements these pre-made bouquets will budget in at a fraction of the cost.
This vintage rose with silk bouquet creates a lovely country or rustic centerpiece placed in a rustic mason jar, tied loosely with natural raffia.  The soft, muted pink of the vintage rose is a classic floral for any fairy tale wedding, given a nice vibrant accent with the golden yellow; berry clusters and rose greenery tie the whole arrangement together.

deep, rich tones, pre-made silk bouquet

Do you want a bit of drama in your wedding?  Now I’m not talking about one of your bridesmaids running off with a groomsman.  This is drama in style, with these stunning, deep violet/ burgundy silk bouquets.  The rich, warm tones are a dramatic take on  fall hues.

For a rustic bouquet pair the rich florals with loosely tied natural raffia.  For a more polished or chic look consider wrapping your stems in an accenting color of satin ribbon.  And for the finishing touches add a bouquet jewel.

Afloral.com offers several bedazzling options in their floral supply section, sure to catch anyone’s eye.

natural wheat bundle, raffia

Dried Floral

Dried Floral: wheat, dried lavender, leaves, branches and mosses are fabulous fall décor selections.  And you can’t get an easier DIY wedding project. Here are two uniquely fall dried floral projects, one will take you one step the other two to complete.  It doesn’t get easier to style than this.
Preserved wheat with blackberry tips are a quintessential fall decor item, combined into a large bundle tied off with loose, colorful raffia they will create an eye-catching fall wedding arrangement.

DIY breakdown wheat bundles, two steps.  Gather a large amount of wheat stalks.  Holding them together tie with raffia, ribbon or twine about 3/4 way up the stalk before the wheat head.  Tie them tight enough to hold them together, but loose enough to let them settle.  Tip: You want your base to be wider than the top so that the bundle can stand on its own.

fall lantern spray arrangement

Chinese or Japanese lanterns will give you a distinctive fall arrangement with rustic branches decorated in a  spray of ornamental color.  Group different lantern sprays for an easy DIY project that captures the warm, burnt tones of fall.
DIY project breakdown, one step.  Literally all you have to do for this project is place your lantern sprays in a select container.  Afloral.com choose a ceramic jug, also consider galvanized containers, wooden crates or old milk jugs for a country, rustic look.

Cut out some wedding floral costs, saving your budget while not having to cut corners on your wedding look.  Silk and dried floral options are great for any budget bride and as you can see any level DIYer bride.

Fun Fall Wedding Ideas

We have given you a lot of tips, tricks, and how-to’s for your Fall Wedding planning.  Now it’s time to show you some playful ideas that make your Fall Wedding look and feel fun.

Not Your Ordinary Halloween Pumpkin

Glittered Wedding Pumpkins Carved Pumpkins for Weddings

Martha Stewart can do it all, including these fancy glittered pumpkins and what girl doesn’t like a little sparkle.   She offers step-by-step instructions on how to create these glitzy masterpieces. You can also use your pumpkin as an illuminated showpiece by punching/drilling out random holes and adding votive candles or led lights. I love the Lumina Pumpkins because of their pure white color.  If you cannot find white pumpkins in your area you can always paint them white or a color that goes with your wedding decor.   Who would have thought a pumpkin could be glamorous?

You Don’t Have to be Fancy to get Hitched

Halloween Wedding Socks

Skip the expensive tux rental and try something different like Jeans.  Jeans have been worn for years in Country Weddings, now they have been given a modern spin by pairing them with a vibrant tie and Chuck Taylors.  Another way to add some uniqueness is for the groomsmen to wear funky socks.  Many photographers are snapping shots of the guys snazzy footwear.

Grownups Can Enjoy These Too

Serve these favorite childhood treats with an upscale spin.  Traditional treats we enjoyed as kids all dressed up and ready to join your wedding dessert table.  Cake Pops, we are starting to see them everywhere!  These bitesize treats on a stick are a yummy & easy way for your guests to have dessert.  They come in every flavor you can imagine.   Caramel Apples have come a long way from a simple melt and dip you enjoyed making as a kid.  Now they are a gourmet item that is dip and filled with the most elegant chocolate ganache.  Choose a rustic handle, such as an apple branch to match your rustic fall wedding.

These Take The Cake

Knock the traditional Bride and Groom off their pedestal and opt for something crazy.  Pez Dispensers, your favorite candy holder as a kid is now being showcased on the top of your cake. Another option from an Etsy Designer IndigoTwinWeddings is to sculpt figures in your own likeness.  She will let you choose a variety of options to personalize your bride and groom cake topper.

Let The Games Begin

Choosing an outdoor venue with  a lot of space to entertain like Liz talks about in her blog post Fall Outdoor Weddings, allows you the room to get your guests up & going.  Yard games offer another fun activity at your wedding other than dancing.  Try classic games like Bocce and Croquet to liven up the wedding reception.  This is also a great way to keep your miniature guests busy and happy.
